Overview

Ancient Greece had many contacts and conflicts that resulted in a changed society and lifestyle. It was a fundamental aspect of the ancient Greek world and it led to the expansion of political borders and new opportunities for the Greek population.

Trade

Trade was an imperative component in the development of the ancient Greek society. It allowed goods to be bought and sold and resulted in the improved wealth and power of the population. The Greek traded with places such as Egypt, southern Italy and communities near the Black Sea. The Greeks imported products such as grain, wool, timber and iron. This was then used to enhance the Greek society by building new and advanced tools and objects. For example, the Greeks imported new types of timber to construct ships. With the island location of Greece, maritime trade flourished and newly created ships were used to export items such as olive oil and pottery to other lands.
